Every year the Coastal Community fund provides over £300,000 of funding to qualifying projects that result in benefitting the natural, built or social environment.

Last year, we awarded £54,280 to the village of Alverdiscott in North Devon to support the much needed alterations to their community centre. Early this year, we supported the halls project further by awarding £5,678 for the finishing touches to make the hall a real central hub for the community.

The hall was built in the 1970s by a group of volunteers with materials they had to hand so the hall needed major refurbishment to bring it into the 21st century. The hall fell into an ill-fated state, becoming a drafty, cold building that the community was hesitant to use. Thanks to extra income from the Coastal Community fund the community hall has been spruced up with roof insulation, a brand new heating system and upgraded toilet facilities.

The hall is now a warm, dry and inviting space for the community to get together and enjoy local events. Andy Rickard, Chairman said:

‘The grant money awarded to us has made a tremendous difference, the hall needed some major alterations. With the money we earn from the hall, we have enough to do the basic maintenance needed but we could never have done all this work and improvements without the money from Coastal. Both the Community and Committee are very grateful for all that Coastal have done for us’.
